The Golden Hinde

08 Jul 2019

On Friday 5th July, Poppy class travelled by bus to London Bridge where we visited a replica of Sir Francis Drake's ship, The Golden Hinde!
The chidren had to dress as Tudor shipmates; some were gunners, some were officers and some were barber surgeons. Each group was able to experience what it would be like as each of those roles whilst the ship was at sail. The children were very well behaved and really enjoyed the trip, some even saying it was the best trip they had ever been on! Here are some of the photos from the day before Miss Hancock's camera battery died :(

Later on that evening, some of the children stayed for a sleepover at school - scroll down to see the photo of our cool sleepover set up!

Travelling back in time to 1577 on board the Golden Hinde!

As officers, this group of children were treated to a meeting in one of Sir Francis Drake's private rooms aboard the ship and were entitled to drink a cup of ale (apple juice) and a biscuit!

Navigating our way around the Golden Hinde:

Learning all about the BRUTAL role of the ships' barber surgeon who had some GRUESOME tasks to carry out!

Learning from the Gunner master on how to operate the ships' guns!

Here, the children were hiding from the Spanish invaders on the lower decks of the ship!

The children were snuggled up in their sleeping bags on PE mats in the hall watching Evan Almighty on the big screen!
