Evacuees head for the country. Good Luck children!

23 Jan 2019

In English we are reading Sid's War by Jon Blake. It is an exciting story of what life was really like in World War II. Sid was a young boy who is evacuated to the country.

The children were taken to the station after their school was damaged from a nearby bomb last night.

The classroom was sadly wrecked by the bomb. It was no longer safe to go to school in Muswell Hill.

A billeting officer explained they would be evacuated to the safety of the countryside. Suddenly the air raid siren went off ....

The W.A.A.F lady escorted the children to Victoria Station and accompanied them on their long journey to North Wales.

Off to the country now children!    Say goodbye to your mothers and grandparents!

After a very tiring and long journey they arrived in North Wales.

Miss Primley was very strict. She was a very busy W.I lady and she wasn't very happy about taking in evacuees to her home. She gave them lots of chores to do to earn their keep!

Some very lucky children went home with Miss Honey. She  promised them milk and cake when they got home.

We hope the experience will help the children with their vocabulary and understanding of the topic and will inspire their diary writing in the coming week.
