Computing

Our computing curriculum at Coppetts Wood aims to instil a sense of enjoyment around using technology and to develop pupils' appreciation of its capabilities and the opportunities technology offers to create, manage, organise and collaborate. After completing our computing curriculum, pupils will have developed the knowledge, skills and understanding to ensure that they are digitally literate, responsible, skilled and active citizens in a digital world.

Through our computing curriculum at Coppetts Wood, we aim for pupils:

  • to develop positive attitudes towards computing
  • to appreciate the capabilities and opportunities technology offers
  • to create, manage, organise and collaborate
  • to know how to conduct themselves online and have the knowledge and skills to keep themselves and others safe in the online world
  • to express themselves, develop ideas using a range of digital media
  • to know how to find out the answers to their questions
  • to further feed their curiosity of technology, through software programs and hardware
  • to effectively cope and safely exist within the ever evolving and changing world of technology

Implementation

Pupils develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of the elements of computing, through theoretical and practical learning. They are supported, extended and challenged in computing and are able to apply their learning to new or unfamiliar technologies.

At Coppetts Wood, we use the primary scheme of learning from Teach Computing.

The schemes of work are adapted to suit our school’s needs and the needs of pupils within each class.

Online Safety is frequently and regularly taught to all pupils, adapted to their age and stage of understanding, through computing lessons, circle time and assemblies.
