Mathematics
Intent
At Coppetts Wood Primary School, we believe that all pupils are capable of understanding and doing mathematics. We acknowledge that it is essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology and engineering and necessary for financial literacy and most forms of employment. We believe our mathematics education provides a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically, an appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject. At our school, we have adopted the Mastery approach for teaching mathematics, this gives children the opportunity to work together on the same topic so that all pupils master it and some gain greater depth of proficiency and understanding. We believe our mathematics provision meets the aims of the National Curriculum and provides children the opportunity to become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, reason mathematically and solve problems by applying their mathematics.
