Science
Curriculum Statement
At Coppetts Wood, our intention is to create a generation of children that are motivated to engage in the world around them and consider science as a means through which they can understand and influence this world.
We aim to stimulate pupils’ curiosity by finding out why things happen in the way they do. We strive to develop children’s knowledge and conceptual understanding through the disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics.
Additionally, we develop pupils’ understanding of the scientific method through enquiries, investigations and questioning, which stimulate creative thought. We intend for children to take part in cross-curricular and outdoor learning, allowing them to discover the impact and influence of science in other domains.
Children should understand the uses and implications of science in the past, present and future and be made aware of the wide variety of future opportunities and careers available to them in the field of science.
